I have developed a very simple survey to measure the attitudes of students toward science fairs. It makes use of the Likert Scale and Open Ended Questions. Do you have a recommendation for the type of statistics to use to validate this survey?

Validating open ended question is certainly different from classical validation of Likert-type items. Are you interested in both? (Your title suggests your main interest is on the last part.) – chl♦ Dec 5 '12 at 21:20
Claudia, you have asked a question upon which textbooks have been written. It might be wise to search this site for validity and surveys. There are some incredibly thorough answers from which you would benefit. If you still have questions after that, you might be able to ask a question for which there is a shorter answer.
