Skills & coursework needed to be a data analyst @MichaelChernick Thank you. A further question: should I obtain SAS certificates to demonstrate my knowledge of SAS, for landing the first job in the field of statistics? |

Skills & coursework needed to be a data analyst I understand the advantages of R. I've been a Linux desktop user for more than 5 yrs and I embrace open source and the idea of free software. The only reason I'm considering learning SAS is that SAS appears quite frequently on job descriptions, I'm afraid that if I only know a bit of SAS and lots of R companies would not favor me, after all they spent a lot of money on SAS software they'd expect employees to use it. I can only learn SAS with the help of school's SAS server since Linux is my only OS. |

Skills & coursework needed to be a data analyst Thanks all for linking to questions with so much information on this topic! From what I understand, machine learning and data mining would be two of the vital courses I should take during graduate study, are there any other specific recommendations? I know I'll have to equip myself with essential skills before I could get a job in statistics and actually start working. |

Skills & coursework needed to be a data analyst thank you. should I just focus on R? I heard big companies do use SAS a lot, is it just a misunderstanding? |
