I'm a PhD Student working within the intersection of systems biology, computational biology and bioinformatics. My background is in applied mathematics and engineering.
The majority of my data analysis has been within the Java ecosystem, although I have worked quite a bit in MATLAB. Over the past 10 years I have fiddled around with several other programming languages/environments (e.g. C, C++, Perl, Bash, SQL, PHP etc), but never got around to "master" any one of them. Long time ambition is to overcome my deep hatred of R.
I have a purely casual interest in programming (in particular concurrent programming and HPC), hash functions and random number generators, while my professional interests are within bioinformatics & computational biology, optimization and data-analysis/mining.

Is Xorshift RNG good enough for Monte Carlo approaches? If not what alternatives are there? @whuber I have read the wikipedia page as well as a number of other sources. I couldn't really find more detailed information on the tests; there are many vague statements like "a certain mean" or "a certain distribution". Would you happen to know more on the tests by any chance? |

Is Xorshift RNG good enough for Monte Carlo approaches? If not what alternatives are there? Any ideas on how one can go about testing such a modification? Oh and btw, any comments on the overall performance of the method? |

Unsure about correlation calculation for a particular setup The entities I mention here are networks, and the scores $S_{i,1}$, $S_{i,2}$ are two different models I evaluate them by. The different runs, I believe, can be seen as repeated measures of the same thing since the models are consistent in between the runs. |
