R vs SAS, why is SAS prefered by private companies? After reading lots of the comments/answers, IMO it sounds like the biggest problem here is: "entrenched proprietary software culture" vs "newer open source culture". So the problem boils down to your standard arguments for and against using proprietary software versus using open source software. When people are against open source, I like to give a good counter example for instance: 100s of millions of people depend on linux everyday... ranging from most websites (apache), to most smartphones (android), to most supercomputers (use linux kernel), to many embedded devices. |
