There are several methods in IRT ability estimation,such as :

  • expected a-posteriori ("EAP"),
  • Bayes modal ("MAP"), weighted
  • likelihood estimation ("WLE"),
  • maximum likelihood ("ML"),
  • expected a-posteriori for sum scores ("EAPsum")

Are there any guidelines as to when each is appropriate?
