Say I have 4 possible classes (C1 to C4) and hence 6 possible models. My question is that in a model, say C1 vs C2, how am I supposed to handle training dataset when a given instance's class is something other than C1 or C2 (say C3 or C4)? Do I only train for instances which are within the two classes of a model? Also, which instances should I test upon for each model.

  • You can train a model only on the data that is relevant to it. If you are training a model for C1 then it makes no sense to include C2 instances. As for testing, either cross validation or a test set. – user2974951 Dec 7 at 7:31
