I am doing a mediation analysis using PROCESS, and need some help with the below. My X = Adverse childhood experiences; Y = meaning (as part of a measure of wellbeing) and my mediator is resilience.

In my simple mediation analysis below i am unclear on why/how i can have a negative total effect, but a positive direct effect of ACEs on meaning, with a negative indirect effect. Especially as when i run a parallel mediation analysis (second set of data below) with my mediator divided in to its subscales, the direct effect becomes very small and insignificant. I dont understand how i should be interpreting both the simple and parallel analyses.

The other mediation analyses i have done with other wellbeing domains as my dependent variable have all shown negative or very small and nonsignificant direct effects.
