I am trying to model for understanding the probability of a customer buying a product based on his/her recent interactions with the system. For a customer who has made a purchase it is very easy to calculate recency attributes however how do I calculate the same for customers who haven't made any purchase?

To simplify how to calculate recency attributes for customers who haven't made any purchases?

  • $\begingroup$ You should build two separate models. One for customers and another for prospects. Alternatively, if you want to build only one model, you can leave the transaction attributes (e.g., recency) blank and use a tree-based modeling technique, such as Decision Trees, that can handle missing values in the training dataset. $\endgroup$ – Vishal Sep 11 '19 at 21:28
