I am trying to model daily energy expenditure in seabird chicks as a function of age and latitude. Since my dataset has a wide variety of chick species, it should make more sense biologically to use the proportion of fledging age instead of measured age since a species at day 20 might be at 90% of its fledging age while other species at day 20 might be at 10% of fledging age.

I just want to see if anyone has use proportional data as an explanatory variable for continuous data.
