I'm new to the Caret package in R. I am learning the "rfe" and "sbf" functions in the caret package.

I was able to run "rfe" and "sbf" for linear regression, using examples I found online.

I am having trouble understanding what helper functions to use for logistic regression. For SBF, I used the "caretSBF" helper function. For RFE, I used the "caretFuncs" helper function. Are these the correct helper functions to use for "SBF" and "RFE" for logistic regression?

I tried using the "lrFuncs" for "RFE". But this produced an error. Wondering if this is because is because I did not convert categorical variables to dummy variables in the training data set, i.e. x? (Did not convert categorical variables to dummy variables because "glm" and "glmnet" can handle categorical variables, i.e. it is not necessary to convert categorical variables to dummy variables for "glm" and "glmnet".)

Other questions:

  1. What helper functions should I use for "SBF" and "RFE" for SVM?
  2. What helper functions should I use for "SBF" and "RFE" for KNN?

I am super new to data science and, as such, do not have a robust understanding of statistical or algorithmic concepts.

Thanks for your help!
