I have six items that are well supported in EFA as two factors of three items each, but the two factors, when made into sub-indices, are not correlated with each other =.10. I wonder whether this means it would be inappropriate to create a summary score from the six items or whether this is still acceptable? When Cronbach's alpha is assessed for each of the 3-item factors separately they are both over .7, but when assessed with the 6-items at once Cronbach's alpha is .5
