I have a cross sectional sample of around 300 respondents. The sample collects data on individuals living with a certain mental health disorder.

The variables are as follows:

  • Continuous dependent variable named "Life events", measured on a Likert scale 1-5.
  • Dichotomous independent variable named "Comorbidity status", that states whether an individuals is living with an additional comorbidity (additional disease) or not.

What test can I run to analyze whether mean scores of life events (the continuous dependent variable) differ between the comorbidity status (the dichotomous independent variable)? I want to analyze my data using SPSS.

$\begingroup$ Welcome to Cross Validated! How do you figure that your “life events” variable is continuous? $\endgroup$
