I want to attest the effects of trial number (order of presentation of the items) to capture any habituation effect along the experiment. I have the following R dataframe in a repeated measures experiment. What is the best way of treating the variable Trial.Number? Should I log transform it? Or should I replace the values in the column Trial.Number so as they represent order of presentation (1st, 2nd, 3rd,...etc) instead of the actual relative order (in the picture, position 8,10,11,18,..).
