Long-time casual Apple product user (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, iCloud) newly interested in using these products in an extremely security conscious way for personal and family use.
In particular, focused on using macOS with minimal installation of non-default software, careful management of user security boundaries, clear control of backup and disaster recovery strategy. Very keen on scripting using tools that are included in macOS by default to automate routine tasks. Thinking about how to manage secrets (passwords, passkeys, security questions, etc) for an international family in a way that doesn't require iCloud but uses it for cloud backup without giving up privacy.
Extremely interested in vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild and how to learn about them quickly and defend family effectively (for example, kids and older parents). Willing to explore the productivity / easy-of-use / convenience tradeoff for security and safety.
Interested in family data warehousing in challenging computing environments. How to collect, concentrate and organize family data in a useful, secure, legacy-ready way.
