Sep 29, 2014 at 0:25 | comment | added | Glen_b | There's certainly an idea around that when (conditional) variation is larger (relative to the variation in $x$), simpler models will tend to work better, and the two ideas are connected (if the x-variable is only over a small range, the conditional variation in $y$ will be relatively larger than if $x$ covers a wider range). I don't have any references for that right now though. | |
