In the case of the single pair, if the larger amount of the two on the table is chosen there is no possibility of trading up. The apparent paradox remains because on looking at an amount of money on opening an envelope the player thinks it is completely reasonable to think that it is 50:50 whether the amount they are looking at is the larger or the smaller amount on the table and thus 50:50 whether swapping will lead to doubling or halving the amount they are looking at. | |
