Sep 13, 2017 at 15:27 comment added gung - Reinstate Monica Motivating a question w/ an example is generally a good thing to do. However, this example seems to be distracting people from what you are really trying to ask. Could you edit this to discuss the situation you are really facing?

Sep 13, 2017 at 14:12 comment added Aksakal The question should be completely re-written. In its current form it's not clear what's asked, and Bolt example doesn't seem to correspond to what's asked.
Sep 13, 2017 at 8:15 comment added zetavolt @Digio Replace "faster" with "has higher serial number" assuming some company "Fubarco" makes a set of products with normally distributed serial numbers.
Sep 13, 2017 at 8:03 comment added Digio I find the question to be ill-posed since the quality of being "fast(er)", here, refers to a genetic potential or athletic talent and not the actual capacity of reaching high speed.

Sep 12, 2017 at 20:42 comment added zetavolt @bayerj Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that this would be a really bad way of predicting the next Olympic challenger. However, it seems like an interesting question in general and I'm trying to answer it to the best of my ability with the hopes that someone takes pity and helps me along.
