Latinising the greek word "σκοπιά" (tr. viewpoint or sentry depending on the context) would probably get you at "skope"; nevertheless especially for small non-composite words regional phonetic rules come into play more strongly so I would assume that "scope" is a safe bet. | |

However, the term "ecology" was introduced in a German form in the mid-19th century and I think translated as "ecology" several decades ago. | |
