Thanks for the comments; yes, "K-means" did come up somewhere in my wild lectures from my PhD mentor, but I'm not exactly sure what the deal is--currently, I think that the data just needs to be packaged up into a special S4 object (R programming) so hopefully that's just the answer. I'll talk more with my mentor and supervisor about this.
